The enclosed garden
This book charts the history and development of the hortus conclusus, the enclosed garden, and its reintroduction into the present-day urban landscape. This garden type captures and isolates aspects of nature and landscape in a relatively small, confined space. The book opens with the ingredients and design concepts, followed by historical examples, amongst which the Alhambra. Designs by Chemetoff and Libeskind show how enclosed gardens play a part in our contemporary metropolises where space is a scarce commodity.
