Potsdam Princes
Ethel Howard (1865-1931) was chosen as English governess to the six sons of William II, German Emperor, in 1895. She held the position for three years until retirement due to ill-health. Twenty years later, shortly after the outbreak of the First World War, she wrote an engaging account of her time at the German court and the princes who had been in her care, with penetrating first-hand insights into their personalities and those of their parents. First published in 1916, this edition contains a new introduction by John Van der Kiste.
