Rivers of Time

Dame Freya Stark will be best remembered as a traveller who wrote brilliantly on Eastern subjects. Her love of words come through strongly in her clear, precise prose, which is at the same time always full of colour and lively atmosphere. The 202 photographs in Rivers of Time represent an alternative means by which Dame Freya recorded her life and journeys. Her innate sense of form and composition in space is revealed in this selection made from thousands of photographs taken with the rare miniature 35 mm Leica camera which she has used since 1933.
