IRIS MURDOCH AS I KNEW HER
A.N. Wilson had John Bayley as his tutor at Oxford, which is where he met Iris Murdoch. He remained a close friend of them both throughout her life and it was at Iris's pleading in 1988 that he agreed to write her biography. Bound to be controversial, Wilson pulls no punches in his view of the recent cinematic portrayal of Iris as a victim of Alzheimer's disease. Instead, he gives us back the fiercely intelligent novelist and philosopher, and shows us a relationship that was deeply loving yet profoundly eccentric and most uncoventional for its day.
