Jos Dirix
Sculptor Jos Dirix lives and works on the outskirts of the village of Neer, not far from Roermond. Behind the exterior of his typical, long-facade farmhouse lies a world steeped in his artistry; a place where he is nourished by all the unique aspects of living close to nature. Here lie the bonds between perception and imagination. In his atelier they are forged together during a creative process that produces bronzes brimming with power. Jos Dirix emphasises attributes and facets that strengthen the expressiveness of the sculptures, in his animals and torsos alike. His works are distinguished by his sensitivity to exceptional balance, which leads to the creation of bronzes that seem to defy gravity. This combination of balance and space might be referred to as a play of opposites, as the artist's quest is for sculptures that elude the classical tradition. This book provides a unique overview of Jos Dirix's oeuvre: an oeuvre that displays his liberating self-will and a style of representation that is adverse to modish pretence, without losing faith in sculpture that appeals.
