Charles Vandenhove

The Li?ge architect Charles Vandenhove (b. 1927) has designed a new town hall for the municipality of Ridderkerk near Rotterdam. The building is located on an oval square, Koningsplein, the new heart of Ridderkerk. The monumental fa?ade and the impressive front extension present a contrast with the light and open main volume, which combines the public functions of the town hall (wedding room, council chamber, counters) with a meeting centre (with a theatre, a music school and a Grand Caf?). As always, Vandenhove has enriched the architecture with art: glass walls with motifs borrowed from Gianbattista Piranesi
