Edwin Zwakman
"I became fascinated by the Dutch landscape because it is entirely constructed. Not for formal reasons, but because it conveys so much about the mentality of the people who made it. To me it is sculpture and as such it is meaningful. When I reflect on what I do, I always make links between the psychological, the sociological and the more formal, aesthetic aspects", says the photographer Edwin Zwakman. Zwakman, born in 1969, constructs a parallel reality through his use and subversion of the forms of documentary and landscape photography -- here what appear to be large-format exterior shots are actually small-scale models constructed in Zwakman's studio, proving that, at least in Zwakman's case, the camera Always lies.
