Alex Vermeulen
States of Humanity is Alex Vermeulen's multi-faceted project examining life inside a metropolis. Using New York City as his reference point, Vermeulen has incorporated sculpture, video installation, photography, and documentary film to depict different aspects of urban experience. Vermeulen's work makes reference to a city planner's layout, an imaginary structure of alleys, streets, avenues, and parks each with its own character and social traffic. Also included are essays by Bill T. Jones, Lodge Kerrigan, Arthur Danto, Richard Shusterman, David Shea, Robert Greene, Martin and Annette Meyers, and Greg Lynn.
