Cornelis van Eesteren (1897-1988) is best Known for his contribution to the De Stijl movement, his role as designer of the Amsterdam General Expansion Plan and his chairmanship of CLAM. In 1928 Eesteren gave a seminal lecture on his model for the functional city The beautiful design of this book allows one to appreciate the work, for which Eesteren illustrated almost a hundred transparencies. In retrospect, Eesteren's plans can be seen as both a watershed in the architect's career, and a masterpiece of urban planning.
