These Americans
A rare glimpse into an American upper class through the lens of the insider. Since 1969 to 1996 Will Vogt photographed his social circle, the rich and privileged, frequent elegant gatherings, sprawling seaside cottages, golf clubs and racetracks, Florida plantations, South Texas ranches, and British shooting estates while on summer vacation in Watch Hill, an affluent coastal neighbourhood of Rhode Island.
Marked by recurring and special events, get-togethers and overseas excursions, Vogts Nikkormat camera pictures American upper class vacationers in a raw, unvarnished light, partying like nobodys watching. Revealing photographs in These Americans are accompanied by an essay by Jay McInerney, whose novel Bright Lights, Big City, published in 1984 by Random House, made him a literary sensation, heralded as the voice of a generation.
