Invisible Vision
In our more and more visual culture, science is increasingly communicated to the public through digital scientific imaging. The ongoing development of science visualization techniques and modes continually broadens our possibilities for making the invisible visible. Invisible Vision reflects on different ways of bringing science and the arts together. And describes new fields where science and art meet - such as virtual reality, computer animation and serious gaming.Sabine E. Wildevuur asks 'Could Science learn from the Arts?' My answer as a historian is that science since the Renaissance has constantly exploited techniques of visual representation forged in the arts. It continues to do so even when its practices are blithely unaware of the legacy. As Sabine E. Wildevuur shows, the continuing stories of art and medicine and medicine in art have been and should continue to be vitally interlocked.
