The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild

"The Call of the Wild," novel by American novelist Jack London published in 1903, is often considered to be his masterpiece and is the most widely read of all his publications.

The novel is set in Yukon, Canada, during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, when strong sled dogs were in high demand. London spent almost a year in the Yukon, and his observations form much of the material for the book.
The plot follows the story of Buck, a dog who is kidnapped and taken up north to work as a sled dog, as he journeys through the Yukon Territory. The harsh natural conditions play a crucial role in how Buck changes throughout the story.

The book's great popularity and success made a reputation for London. As early as 1923, the story was adapted to film, and it has since seen several more cinematic adaptations.
