PETER BUGGENHOUT : EROTISM
The Belgian sculptor Peter Buggenhout (born 1963 in Dendermonde, Belgium, lives and works in Ghent, Belgium) describes his hybrid sculptures as ?abject things? that reject any classification, including those as artistic works. He uses materials that have rarely found their way into contemporary art: house dust meets waste, tanned cow stomachs and the remains of bouncy castles on acrylic glass and cast polyamide. Even when classic materials such as Carrara marble appear in his works, the objects applied to the stone surface appear idiosyncratically assembled and condensed and defy any figurative interpretation. Not only because of the special choice of materials, but also because of their enormous physical presence and their archaic hermeticism, Buggenhout's objects occupy a special position in the field of contemporary sculpture.
With extensive images and texts by curator Selen Ansen, art critic Nicolas Bourriaud and the artist, the monograph provides an overview of the internationally renowned sculptor's works and series created since 2017.
