Helmut Newton. Big Nudes

Helmut Newton. Big Nudes

Helmut Newton (1920-2004) has been one of the most influential photographers of all time. A Berliner by birth, he arrived in Australia in 1940, where he married June Brunell (aka Alice Springs) eight years later. He achieved international fame in the 1970s, while working primarily for the French edition of Vogue, and his notoriety and influence increased over the years. More than in studios, Newton always preferred to photograph in streets or interiors. Controversial settings, bold lighting and striking compositions came together to form his particular look. In 1990 he was awarded the Grand Prix National de la Photographie and in 1992 the German government awarded him Das Grosse Verdienstkreuz (Grand Cross of Merit) for his services. That same year he was appointed Officier des Arts, Lettres et Sciences by Princess Caroline of Monaco and, in 1996, Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Philippe Douste-Blazy, French Minister of Culture at the time. Until his death, at the age of 83, he lived and worked closely with his wife. Your images follow
