The 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment
On the 20th October 1942, the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US Army was activated at Camp Blanding, Florida. After an extended one year period of training, the Regiment was ordered to the European theatre of war, in preparation for the Allied invasion of Normandy. On the 6th June 1944, at 02.08 hours, the Regiment jumped into the town of Picauville, to begin a series of remarkable and successful missions in France, Holland, the Ardennes and Germany that would result in their being chosen to serve as Honour Guard around Eisenhower's HQ at the end of the War. This is their story.
