Kake-Jiku
This dazzling collection of 14 original Kumiko Sudo designs is inspired by traditional Japanese Kake-jiku - the hand-painted scrolls that hang in entryways and alcoves to celebrate the seasons and bestow good fortune on the household. With her intuitive sense of colour and design, Sudo has rendered each in contemporary fabrics. Like picture-windows into Japanese culture, all designs are constructed using Sudo's unique brand of Japanese applique. Some are embellished with the fabric-origami flowers that have come her trademark; others are enhanced with beautiful sashiko stitching. This work includes: 14 Japan-inspired designs using applique, fabric origami, and sashiko; glorious colour photos and dozens of colour step-by-step drawings; and a package of full-size templates on re-usable reinforced paper is bound in with book.
