Newman's Birds of Southern Africa
This field guide illustrates and describes all the birds recorded from the Antarctic to the Zambezi. Its range includes the birds of the southern seas, as well as those of Southern Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Mozambique.;An introduction takes the reader step-by-step through the process of identifying birds and using the book in the field, and includes a photographic guide to the major bird habitats of Southern Africa. For this edition, the bird descriptions have been updated, as have distribution maps, which now incorporate the Southern Africa Bird Atlas data. The maps show at-a-glance which birds are resident all year and which are only present in the region at certain times of the year. Illustrations have also been updated to reflect research on plumage variations and other visual characteristics. To aid the easy use of the book in the field, features include colour coding of major bird groups, running headings at the top of each page to indicate which family of birds is being described, large page numbers, and large and accurate pictures which reflect the bird as seen in the field.
