Edward Hopper
Hopper made the unique visual landscape of the American city all his own. All-night diners, filling stations, motel rooms and deserted offices are populated by isolated, brooding figures. This work on the quintessentially American artist accompanies a retrospective at Tate Modern, Summer 2004.
