Sir James George Frazer (1854-1941) is often dubbed the father of modern anthropology. In particular, Frazer intently studied mythology and comparative religion across the globe to form a thesis that human belief around the world followed a similar pattern of belief in magic, then religion, then science. To that end, in 1890 Frazer published his most famous work, The Golden Bough. What made Frazers work groundbreaking was its comparison of certain myths and rituals, drawing parallels between pagan rituals and Christianity to help explain the religions origins.
