Solo Dance
• Kotomi’s is an important queer voice from East Asia’s millennial generation and Solo Dance depicts the painful coming-of-age of a gay person in Taiwan and corporate Japan. • Solo Dance is our first translation from the Japanese. • Li Kotomi is a bilingual Japanese-Chinese writer, translator, and interpreter. She was born in Taiwan in 1989 and moved to Japan in 2013. Solo Dance was written in Japanese, her second language. • The way the authors straddles two languages and cultures is very interesting. • “With her powerful voice, Kotomi blows a fresh, new breeze into the often introverted world of contemporary Japanese literature.” —JAPANESE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, SPORTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY • Buzz is already building a year prior to publication. Words Without Borders ran an excerpt for Pride Month 2021, and LGBTQ Reads announced the book deal, creating excitement on social media. • The LGBTQ community is embracing the novel already, and we’re publishing the novel in June in celebration of Pride Month 2022. • The author has an online presence and is active on social media, but unfortunately speaks no English. We’ll rely on the translator to help promote the novel.
