The Book of Martyrs
"It will not be inappropriate to devote a few pages of this work to a brief detail of the lives of some of those men who first stepped forward to stem the time of papal corruption, and to seal the pure doctrines of the Gospel with their blood."
The Book of Martyrs is a celebrated work of church history and martyrology. It continues today as the only Protestant text which sought to document the lives of notable martyrs "from the year of our Lord 1000 unto the time now."
The sequence of the work covers early Christian martyrs, a brief history of the medieval church, including the Inquisitions, and a history of the Wycliffe movement. John Foxe also included interesting historical accounts of his contemporaries Martin Luther, and John Calvin.
