A Proper British Girl
Elena Ross is from old money. Her parents have a country house with a real castle on its grounds. She's raised to privilege and sophistication. After her first year at Cambridge, her parents decide she should start getting a feel for the family business. She is sent to Singapore to work for the head of the local branch of the bank her uncle runs. Singapore is a beautiful, orderly, clean, neat, sophisticated city, and she thrives there. Until, that is, a crude Black American shows up one day in the office when she's alone. He's wealthy without the proper class which goes along with it, she thinks disparagingly. But her view of his unsophisticated noveau riche behavior wavers when forced to take papers to him on his yacht and finds him wearing nothing but a skimpy swimsuit. His enormous, muscled body sends a sense of breathless admiration through her. And when he tells her she should be wearing a collar and nothing else, her outrage is tempered by a dark curiosity filled with sexual tension. He delights in using crude language, in making her use crude language, and in baking her mind in a scalding heat such as she's never known or imagined. She doesn't like him at all, but she's helpless before the shocking passion and heat he gives her.
