Sarah Hatton & Martin Storey Designer Knits
The initial idea for this book sprang from Sarah's love of the honesty of street-style photography - in particular the likes of Bill Cunningham and Scott Schuman (the Sartorialist) - as she wanted to create a collection of high-fashion knits for women and men with a slightly street edge. Once the ideas started forming in her mind, she says she was lucky to get 'the glorious Martin Storey' on board to create the men's designs. As she says, 'Martin has long been a knitwear hero of mine and his is the king of texture. So no pressure!' Martin, for his part, just loves designing knits for men, in particular, so the chance to join forces with Sarah on this book, with eleven designs for 'her and 'him' was a project right up his (urban!) street. In order to create a 'his and hers' feel to the book, they set themselves quite a tight design brief using different styles/titles as a jumping off point: for example, using stripes or a 'sloppy Joe' look. They then discussed yarn preferences and colour palettes. When they exchanged their first thoughts, they were amazed to find how closely their ideas fitted together. Sarah and Martin obviously enjoyed their collaboration and they hope you enjoy knitting the results.
