Mairi Hedderwick, famous for her Katie Morag children's books, has now turned her hand to a personal and unique record of her six-month solitary journey through the beautiful archipelago which forms the Western Isles of Scotland.It was on a chilly March morning that she set off in an aged VW camper van to embark upon her journey, determined to fulfil a fantasy of travelling to every Hebridean isle. It was an exhausting but rewarding six months.The resulting account of her travels and the many sketches she made show us the islands in all their diversity. We see swift and perceptive cameos of everyday life drawn with humour and affection alongside gorgeous landscapes which capture the truly magical beauty of the Hebrides.
