This book explores the Chinese martial arts of Tai Chi and Baguazhang, by looking closely at their historical and cultural roots in theater, performance, religion, ritual, and mythology. It explains how this knowledge was separated from the arts themselves after the humiliation of the Boxer Uprising (1899-1901).
