DEALING WITH AVOIDANT PERSONALITY DISORDER (AvPD)
AvPD is an Array of Personality Disorder in which the primary managing mechanism of persons afflicted is avoidance of feared impulses.. People who are affected exhibit a pattern of very high social anxiety, social avoidance, feelings of inferiority and inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to negative judgment and rejection, avoidance of social interaction despite a strong desire for intimacy. People with AvPD often believe themselves to be socially awkward or unattractive and avoid social engagement out of fear of being mocked, humiliated, rejected, or disliked. They often avoid getting close to others unless they are certain that they will be appreciated. AvPD is associated with an increased risk of development when there is a history of child abuse or neglect, particularly when one or both parents reject the child. However, it is possible for AvPD to develop without a clear history of abuse or neglect.
