The Hinkel Cases 26 - The 5-Cent Murderer
Fifteen years ago, the five-cent murderer, as he was dubbed by the police back then, was responsible for the death of four victims. He would have probably murdered more people, too, were it not for Colonel Alfons Gerber – a young police captain at the time – apprehending him and putting him behind bars. But, fifteen years later, the case still haunts the colonel. Threatened with early retirement due to having lost his sight, he has much too much time to think. But then the colonel tells Hink the story … and Hink can’t but agree that there’s something about that last murder that just doesn’t make sense. Did the police catch the wrong man all those years ago? And, if so, what can they do about it now that so much time has passed?
