THE BRITISH PEN, DAME HILARY MANTEL
The first female author to win the Booker prize twice, Dame Hilary Mantel, who passed away at age 70 after suffering a stroke, did so for the first two books of her epic trilogy about Thomas Cromwell's life, Wolf Hall (2010) and Bring Up the Bodies (2012). The books, which total 2,000 pages and have sold 5 million copies worldwide, were adapted by Mantel herself for the RSC stage production (2014), a process she adored.
This book was written by British author Abby Sykes, a biography and memoirs specialist, who did excellent research on Hilary Mantel's life, work, biographies, recollections, and personal life to create a book that is more accurate than a television program.
In this book you'll find out:
- Hilary Mantel in history
- Writers life
- Her books
- Her method of composing
- Awards and her death
They were also converted into a renowned BBC series (2015) starring Mark Rylance. The Mirror and the Light (2020), which saw the death of Cromwell and served as the trilogy's climax, ended up being her last book. The novels, which are all told in the present tense, are a masterwork of immersive storytelling and a significant milestone in modern fiction.
