It was very nice to visit Umrah in 2017. I had the opportunity
to visit the back quarters of Mecca. It was a place among the rocks
due to the general structure of the city. Since the city is a very old
settlement, there were very old and neglected buildings in the back
neighborhoods. I had the opportunity to see the water tanks built
between these buildings during the Ottoman period. There was no
glass in the windows of old buildings, which could be a very old habit
due to the hot weather. Numerous new modern hotels in the city
almost hide these old buildings. There were a lot of cats living on
these streets, I tried to give them most of the food left from the
refectory during my stay. I was trying to give rice and bulgur to the
pigeons from time to time. I made a drinker for cats from empty water
bins in the hotel's cafeteria so that the cats would not be dehydrated.
Again, I packed the sweets left in the cafeteria in bags so that they
would not go to waste, and I made them happy by giving them to
families sleeping near Kaaba without renting a hotel from Africa.
We visited places such as Arafat, Hira Cave and Sevres Cave in
Mecca, but I saw that the garbage of these places was not cleaned in
general and I thought it was not suitable for these holy lands.
Work continued on the porticoes surrounding the Kaaba. With
the new arrangement, the circumference of the Kaaba was narrowed a
little, so the Ottoman porticos were removed and the Kaaba was
relocated in accordance with the new structure.
Places in the Kaaba were constantly being wiped out, trying to
pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene. In order to prevent
congestion before and especially after prayers, the crowd was tried to
be guided by plastic barriers.
There are many shops selling souvenirs. You can buy clothes,
jewelry etc. that you have never seen in these shops. You can buy the
products. You can see the items.
