A Modest Proposal
In 1729, Jonathan Swift composed one of the most famous satires in Western literature, A Modest Proposal. In his essay, Swift straight-facedly suggests that Ireland could solve its hunger problems by using its children for food. Its full title is A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick.
