Chevron Cowl

Chevron Cowl

During the colder months, the process of creating toasty knitwear can be as cozy as the knitwear itself. One of my favorite things in the fall and the winter is to sit down in front of a roaring fire and knit or crochet.

This cowl, with its bulky yarn, knits up quickly in just one or two evenings, and it only requires the most basic of knitting loom stitches: knit and purl. The zig-zaggy chevron texture is achieved through judiciously-placed purl stitches among the knit stitches.

The project is worked on a Martha Stewart knitting loom, which allows you to customize the peg configuration with different colors – this makes it easier to keep track of the stitch pattern – although a savvy loomer could substitute a loom of similar gauge.

Put your feet up in front of the fire, pour yourself a cup of tea, and knit up this cozy neckwarmer. You’ll be wearing it outside against the elements within a day or two!
